Facebook.

So Mr. Moon I figured since you were "Facebook Illiterate" I would list some of the most used apps and the gainers (apps that aren't quite at the top, but are certainly getting there).

Farmville- You get to be a farmer and farm your virtual farm. This includes all types of crops that are grown in the United States and I believe there are exotic crops as well. You can have cattle including cows, pigs, and sheeps. You can also have dogs, ducks, and rabbits. You farm by buying farming equipment like tractors. Your crops can spoil so you have to pick them either every two hours, six hours, a day, or every two days depending on their growth rate. I believe there are other growth rates, but I am not sure. This app comes in at the top most used app with 74 million users.

Cafe World- Like Farmville, but you own a cafe and you are a cook. 31 million users

Iheart- You send virtual hearts over the internet to tell people you love them. Why we can't do this in person I do not know. 30 million users

Happy Aquarium- You own a virtual aquarium where you have to feed and play with your fish and you have to clean their fishbowl. 29 million users,

Fishville- The samething as happy aquarium. 25 million users.

Mafia Wars- You become a mob boss and you start wars with other mob bosses. 24 million

Gainers:

Pillow Fight- Everytime you log on you press a button that hits another person with a virtual pillow. If you dont hit the person that hit you back within two days you lose the pillow fight.

Tiki Farm- Same as Farmville just in Hawaii.

Two million plus users for both.

Most of these games cost money if you want to get the "good" stuff. You can actually purchase Farmville, Mafia War, etc. giftcards at places like Walmart or Best Buy.

Yes, society has stooped this low. There you go Mr. Moon what makes Facebook go round. Personally, looking this up and typing this post makes me want to delete my Facebook.

  1. Well this is interesting. I had only heard of farmville. I'm all for farming, but in real life. Same for cooking. I used to have fish, but our cats kept eating them. I just don't understand the allure of this, but to each his own. I, and everybody else wastes time, it just seems like this is an incredible waste of time. And, yes, people should tell those they love in person, but at least they are, so I won't criticize too much on the Iheart app. And people pay for this? Interesting. OK. I want you people to convince me why this is the best thing going now. Post away and we'll discuss tomorrow.

  2. UGH!!! I don't use any of the apps, I get requests for them like every day though. Facebook is just cool for interacting with friends when ur not face to face and it gives you different ways to do it.

  3. Exactly my thoughts on the farming and cooking, I don't have a farm, but I do have a garden and a compost pile, but my parents refuse to have anything to do with it maintaining wise, but my mom sure does love her Farmville. I have all apps on my Facebook blocked completely, Honestly, I use Facebook to talk to about four people other than family and use it to communicate about school alot during the school year. Other than that I dont get on it to much. I could definitely see the benefits, but seeing as you lived in a small town you can probably reconnect with old friends just by going back to your hometown. So I don't think you really need one.

  4. In my opinion, way too many people spend way too much time on the web period. Yes, farmville on facebook may be the most amazing thing ever to people with nothing to do with their lives but there is also something out there called a nursery and the good ol earth. My point? Go spend your money at a real place, buying real plants that you can REALLY plant and farm. I bet its much more rewarding than taking a trip to Walmart and buying a "giftcard" to play games on a social network. Who in their right minds would want to sit at their computer for six hours a day on farmville, getting off to eat and then having to check your crops in two more hours haha.

  7. In my opinion this is when Facebook become ridiculous. When people stop their daily lives to spend house a day harvesting virtual crops, and paying for it.... thats a sign that you need a break. Using Facebook as a quick, fun, and different way to commmunicate with people is fine, don't get addicted.

  8. To further show how popular FarmVille is, not that that's even necessary, Apple had Mark Pincus, CEO of Zynga (the company behind FarmVille), announce to the world at a huge Apple Keynote (at the WWDC) that FarmVille was coming out for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

Some of my friends use Facebook exclusively for FarmVille. Their walls are literally filled with nothing but FarmVille stuff. They don't even communicate with people on there.

I don't think Facebook is stupid at all, but it's the way in which it's being used that's stupid. What was originally a good idea became a big piece of crap. If it weren't for all the applications and the company's stupid privacy changes, Facebook would be so much better.
